Dhaka Bureau: The government has decided to import wheat fertilizer from Russia, Canada, and Morocco. Among them, 300,000 tons of wheat will be imported from Russia, and 170,000 metric tons of fertilizer will be imported from Canada and Morocco. On Wednesday (September 13), Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal chaired the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement and approved a procurement proposal in this regard. After the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division, Syed Mahbub Khan, informed the reporters. He said that the proposal to buy 3.3 million tons of wheat from the Russian Federation through the G2G system has been approved.
The food department will import this wheat for 1 thousand, 32 crore, and 90 lakh rupees. In this case, the price of wheat is 34 taka 43 paisa per kg. Besides, the government is buying 170 thousand metric tons of fertilizer from Canada and Morocco. Out of this, there are 1 lakh tons of MOP fertilizer, 40 thousand tons of DAP fertilizer, and 30 thousand tons of TSP fertilizer. He said that 50,000 metric tons of murate-of-potash (MOP) fertilizer will be purchased from the Canadian Commercial Corporation under the state-level contract of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) under the Ministry of Agriculture.
The cost has been estimated at 177 crore, 65 lakh taka. In a separate proposal, the proposal to import 50 thousand metric tons of MOP fertilizer at 177 crore 65 lakh taka from the Canadian Commercial Corporation under the contract at the state level has been approved in the 14th lot. Additional Secretary Saeed Mahmud Khan said, under the state-level contract of BADC under the Ministry of Agriculture, it has been decided to purchase 40 thousand metric tons of DAP fertilizer from Morocco’s OCP SA in the sixth lot. 231 crore and 44 lakh rupees have been estimated in this. In a separate proposal, the proposal to import 30,000 metric tons of TSP fertilizer in the seventh lot from Morocco’s OCP SA under the contract at the state level has been approved for Tk 128 crore, 61 lakh, 75 thousand. He said 14 proposals have been presented for the approval of the purchase committee.
Among them, there were 4 proposals from the Department of Electricity, 4 from the Ministry of Agriculture, 3 from the Ministry of Commerce, 1 from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, 1 from the Department of Road Transport and Highways, and 1 from the Ministry of Food. Syed Mahmud Khan mentioned that the total amount of money in 14 proposals approved by the purchase committee is 23 thousand 82 crores 46 lakhs 82 thousand 546 rupees and said that out of the total financing, 22 thousand 367 crores 11 lakhs 7 thousand 546 rupees will be spent from GOB, and the financing of domestic banks is 715 crores 35 lakhs 75 thousand tk.
