Church attack in Congo kills 14

International Desk: 14 people were killed in the terrorist attack on the church in the Republic of Congo. The country’s local officials and a civil society leader confirmed it on Monday (August 28).

Earlier on Sunday (August 27), at least 14 people were killed after an attack on worshipers praying in a church in Congo’s eastern province of Ituri. Those concerned said that some of the attackers were among the dead. Congo’s eastern region has been mired in years of persistent violence despite increasing intervention by the country’s army and UN peacekeepers, and Sunday’s attacks and deaths are the latest in a series of destabilizations. Reuters news. Nine civilians, four attackers, and one soldier were among the 14 killed.

The Congolese government had previously declared a blockade in North Kivu and Ituri in 2021 to prevent widespread militia violence. But the killings and insurgent activity showed no signs of abating. UN peacekeepers have been deployed in Congo for more than 20 years.
