Dhaka Bureau: Bangladesh has returned 50 million dollars out of the 200 million-dollar loan given to Sri Lanka. Another 50 million dollars are expected to be returned on August 30. Another 150 million dollars will remain. Bangladesh Bank’s spokesperson and executive director, Mejbaul Haque, confirmed this information to the media and said, “In view of the country’s application, the time was extended several times earlier.

Now they are expected to return the remaining $150 million in due course. Incidentally, Bangladesh loaned Sri Lanka $200 million from its foreign exchange reserves in September 2021 under the currency swap system on the condition that it be returned within three months.

The one-year loan expired in September of last year. After that, the period was extended to March of this year by extending the period in two installments of three months. Later, the country was given another six months until September. Bangladesh is supposed to get one and a half percent interest by adding the London Interbank Offer Rate, or Libor, to the loan.
