Dhaka Bureau: Open soybean oil will not be available in the market starting Tuesday (August 1). The Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection will be in the field to enforce this government decision.

Director General (Additional Secretary) AHM Safikuzzaman of the Directorate General of Consumer Rights Protection announced the campaign in this regard in the notification workshop on the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, and price hike on July 26.

He said, “According to the law, packaged soybean oil must be sold starting August 1, and open oil cannot be sold. We will enter the field to stop the sale of open oil. Soybean oil currently meets 30 percent of the country’s total edible oil demand. The remaining 70 percent is filled with palm, super palm, and mustard oils. Meanwhile, half of the total soybean oil sold in the domestic market is sold in bottled form. The other half is open.

However, it has been decided to stop selling open soybeans to reduce weight, stop adulteration, and maintain nutritional quality.
