17 people were killed in a crane collapse in India

International Desk: At least 17 people were killed when a huge crane used in the construction of a train line collapsed in Maharashtra, India. Five more people were injured in this incident. The accident took place in Thane, in the western state of Maharashtra, during construction work in the early hours of Tuesday (August 1). News NDTV.

The machine was reportedly being used in the construction of the third phase of the Samriddhi Express Highway in the state. Police said 17 people were killed and three others injured when a girder launching machine (a huge crane) collapsed near Shahpur in Thane. The crane was being used for the construction of the third phase of the Samriddhi Express Highway. 17 people were killed and five injured when a crane used to construct a train bridge collapsed in Thane.

According to the media, the accident took place during the construction of a bridge near Saralambe village in Thane. Apart from the dead, several others are feared to be trapped under the rubble. This major accident occurred when the crane and the slab connecting the girder machine fell from a height of 100 feet during the construction work. Along with the injured, the bodies were also taken to the local hospital. Police, NDRF, and fire brigade personnel are engaged in rescue and search operations.

The death toll is expected to rise. The accident-stricken machine is used to install precast box girders in highway and high-speed rail bridge construction projects.
