International Desk: At least 34 people, including seven army personnel, have been killed in an attack by gunmen in the West African country of Nigeria. The attack and killings took place in the northwestern Zamfara province of the country.

News from Reuters At least 34 people, including seven soldiers, have been killed in an attack by armed groups in Nigeria’s Zamfara province, local residents said. Ismail Magazi, a local resident, told Reuters that the attack took place in the province’s remote Dan Gulbi district on Monday afternoon.

Lawali Jonai, another resident, said 27 villagers were killed and seven army personnel lost their lives in the attack. Basically, the army men were ambushed on the way to help the villagers from this terrible attack by the gunmen.

The news agency said these gangs of heavily armed criminals are locally known as dacoits. Over the past three years, these criminals have carried out attacks across the north-western region of Nigeria, causing massive damage. During this time, they kidnapped thousands of people and killed hundreds more.
