International Desk: A terrorist attack has taken place at a checkpoint in the Dhana Sar area of Sherani, Balochistan, Pakistan. Three police officers and one member of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) were killed. Besides, a terrorist was also killed in the retaliatory fire of the security personnel. Dawn’s news.
Sherani Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bilal Sabbir confirmed the casualties in the terrorist attack at dawn. He said that there was a gunfight between the terrorists and the security forces for about two hours. One FC member was injured. He is out of danger, reports said. Apart from this, two terrorists were also injured.
The DC of Sherani said that the two injured terrorists managed to escape. The body of the slain terrorist has been sent to the Anti-Terrorism Department. Apart from this, Sabbir said that the bodies of martyred security personnel have been taken to the Job district hospital. Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Qudus Bizenjo condemned the attack and said terrorists could not demoralize the security forces through cowardly acts. He also said that the sacrifice of security personnel is a torch of light for the nation.
Attacks on security forces in Pakistan have been on the rise in recent years. The Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies (PIPS) has reported a 27 percent increase in terrorist attacks in Pakistan in 2022 compared to 2021. At least 419 people were killed and 734 injured in 262 terrorist attacks in the country last year. PIPS is an Islamabad-based think tank.
