Sports Desk: The practice for the Bangladesh team is still hours away. After the indoor net session, Tamim Iqbal was going to the dressing room with physio Mojadded Alfa Sani. Tamim, suffering from back pain, was also under the Atsi glass on the last day of practice.
Head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe spoke about Tamim in a press conference shortly before he returned to the dressing room. Hathurusinghe has heard only hope about him.
“I think he’s going to practice. We’ll see how he feels. He had practiced the day before when he felt uncomfortable, in a few cases, batting and fielding. So today he will practice again, and after practice he will be monitored.”
Tamim batted with relief from earlier today’s practice. Mushfiqur took Rahim with him and went to the indoor outer in the morning. His batting preparation goes there. The left-handed batsman batted for thirty minutes in the net. Played the shot with ease. However, while the front foot was fresh, the back foot was sluggish. There is no doubt that the problem is due to a back injury.
After resting in the dressing room, Tamim started fielding practice. Fielding coach Shane McDormett takes his ground fielding and catching practice. He did not emphasize much there either. He threw the ball without any force. He took a high catch right in the middle of the net.
Before this, Tamim was seen repeatedly putting his hands on his waist and back during practice last Saturday. He also sat repeatedly during fielding and batting practice. However, the last day of practice showed some relief compared to the previous day. But it can be understood whether it is fit to play the test match or not.
If Tamim does not play, Mahmudul Hasan Joy-Zakir Hasan will be seen in the opening position in the only Test. The head coach has had a very serious practice session with both of them.
Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in the only Test at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla on June 14.
