DHAKA BUREAU: The highest inflation has occurred in one era. Headline inflation averaged 9.94 percent in Bangladesh in May of the current fiscal year, the highest in 12 years, due to the adverse effects of price hikes in the market. Earlier in May 2011, inflation was 10.2 percent.
This is what is stated in the updated data of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for May given by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday (June 5).
However, overall inflation rose to 8.78 percent in February of this year. The inflation rate rose again to 9.33 percent in March. Inflation eased slightly in April but was not promising. At that time, the overall, or general, inflation rate was 9.24 percent.
