International Desk: At least 176 people were killed in flash floods in the eastern part of the Central African country of Congo due to heavy rains. But local civil society member Kasol Martin said 227 bodies were found there. Aljazeera news
The provincial government of South Kivu province said in a statement that the death toll from the floods has risen to 176. Heavy rains in the province on Thursday caused a river to overflow its banks and caused widespread damage and loss of life in the villages of Bushushu and Nyamukubi.
South Kivu Governor Theo Ngwabidze Kasi said many were still missing.
On the other hand, Kasol Martin, a member of the local civil society, said people are sleeping in the open. Schools and hospitals were swept away by flood waters.
