International Desk: Clashes between the military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan have continued for the third day.
In the clash that took place on Monday (April 17), about one and a half hundred civilians, both military and civilian, were killed, and about 1,000 people were injured. Meanwhile, Sudan’s Central Committee of Doctors said at least 97 civilians and 45 soldiers had been killed in the conflict. A total of 942 people were injured. However, the government did not provide casualty figures due to the fear of a large-scale civil war. Reuters news.
The capital, Khartoum, is still rocked by bombings, explosions, and warplanes. Attacks were also reported near the military headquarters. Witnesses reported clashes near another base on the other side of the Nile. Smoke was seen billowing from the capital’s international airport.
Both sides have counterclaimed for success in Monday’s fight. RSF has claimed to occupy several airports and military bases. On the other hand, the military said that it has taken control of the headquarters despite the ‘limited-scale clashes’.
The Army took control of state television. However, the broadcast was interrupted for a while due to the shelling. The television then started broadcasting a video of the army destroying RSF vehicles. Earlier in the day, RSF had demanded to take control of the television building.
