Bogra Correspondent: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has again sent back the goods taken to Dhaka to Shahid Chandu Stadium in Bogra. Stadium venue manager Jamilur Rahman Jamil took delivery of three covered van loads of goods from Dhaka last Sunday evening. These goods were unloaded on Monday.

Venue manager Jamilur Rahman Jamil said, “All the goods taken to Dhaka have been brought back again.” All but one of the 17 staff members have rejoined. He said, “The field conditions have deteriorated a bit in these few days. This is due to insufficient watering. We are trying to bring the field back to its former state. But since the game is going on here, it will not be possible to start the field renovation work before the 13th. The official in charge of the stadium also said, “A team from BCB will visit here after Eid.” After the inspection, necessary steps will be taken regarding the stadium renovation work.

This field was once a football stadium. In 2004, it was converted into a cricket stadium at a cost of 21 crores. The stadium, owned by the National Sports Council, was first announced by the BCB as a cricket venue. The venue then employs 17 staff for maintenance. On January 30, 2006, the ICC declared the stadium an international cricket venue. Later, the ground was recognized as an international test venue. However, after December 2006, no international match was held at that venue. National League games were held instead. Besides, local-level games continue there under the supervision of the District Sports Association.

In this situation, the BCB announced the cancellation of the Shaheed Chandu Cricket Stadium on March 2 due to not getting the opportunity to conduct the National League game due to local level cricket. At the same time, 17 staff members, including the manager, were transferred from that venue. Even remove tools. Cricket fans were outraged by this. After 38 days, it was decided to reinstate the stadium as BCB’s venue.
