A 7.2-magnitude earthquake hits Papua New Guinea

International Desk: A strong earthquake has been reported in Papua New Guinea. The earthquake, which struck early Monday morning (April 3) local time, had a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale.

However, no major damage was immediately reported. Reuters news.

According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the epicenter of the quake was 96 km southwest of Wewak, the capital of East Sepik province, in Lake Chambri and at a depth of 80 km below the surface. However, no tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake.

According to the US Geological Survey, a magnitude 7 earthquake occurred in New Guinea. The earthquake struck about 62 kilometers below the surface at 3:04 a.m. local time.
