International Desk: The country’s court sentenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to 2 years in a defamation case for making offensive comments about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Also, the court granted him bail for 30 days to file an appeal.
A court in Gujarat’s Surat gave this verdict against Rahul on Thursday (March 23).
While campaigning in Karnataka for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Rahul raised the question, Why are all thieves called Modi? He compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi with IPL scam accused Lalit Modi and bank-loan absconder Nirav Modi.
Gujarat BJP leader Purnesh Modi filed a defamation case against Rahul in that incident. Rahul was found guilty in that case. Along with that, the possibility of rejection for Congress Member of Parliament Venar also appeared.
However, the court granted 30-day bail to Rahul and allowed him to appeal.
