Sports Desk: For the first time, the Bangladesh team has become the champion in the women’s category of the ‘South Asian Sestobol Competition 2023″ held in India. On the other hand, Bangladesh has become the runner-up in the men’s category.
Today, Sunday, March 5, 2023, in the morning of the women’s division held in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Bangladesh won the honor of becoming the champion women’s chess team after defeating India by 18 points. On the other hand, in the final of the men’s category, the Bangladesh team lost to India by a margin of 27–20 points and became the runners-up.
Shireen Akhter of Bangladesh was the best player in the women’s category of the tournament. And Tanmoy Das of Bangladesh became the best player in the men’s category.
Sports-friendly organization Walton Hitech Industries Limited (PLC) has sponsored the Bangladesh Women and Men Cestoball Teams to participate in the first ever South Asian Cestoball Tournament held in India.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s women’s sand volleyball team entered the final after defeating Nepal by 30-10 points in the women’s division match on Saturday night. After that, Bangladesh’s men’s soccer team secured the title by defeating Nepal by 25 points in the men’s division match.
The Bangladesh Sestoball team left Dhaka on Tuesday night (February 28, 2023) to participate in this tournament. They reach Kolkata from Dhaka. From there, reach Nagpur in Maharashtra by train.
Bangladesh, India, and Nepal participated in the first South Asian Cestoball competition. The game is played in a league format. The two teams at the top of the points table play in the final.
Walton Group Senior Executive Director FM Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn) congratulated the Bangladesh team for becoming champions in the women’s category and runners-up in the men’s category. Also, congratulations to the runner-up men’s soccer team. They put up a great fight with India.
Nine players for the Bangladesh women’s team and 10 players for the men’s team participated in this tournament. Besides, coaches and officials were with the team.
The women players of the Bangladesh team who participated in the first South Asian chess tournament sponsored by Walton are Pooja, Deepa, Dulali, Iti, Shahina, Ripa, Bobby, Najma, and Shirin.
