International Desk: Gunmen have shot and killed six people, including regional governor Roel Degamo, in the Philippines. Several others were injured in the shooting. They have been admitted to the hospital.
The incident took place on Saturday at the home of the governor of Negros Oriental province, Roel Degamo.
Dressed in law enforcement uniforms, they entered Governor Roel Degamore’s home in the city of Pamplona. As soon as they entered, they opened fire. His wife said six people, including Governor Rowell, were shot dead.
Governor Dagemo is believed to have been killed by his opponents. Local elections were held in the Philippines last month. In that election, Dagemo’s rival candidate for governor of the city of Negros Oriental won first. But the vote was later recounted, and the court ruled that Dagemo was elected. Dagemo took over as governor on the orders of the court. But he lost his life in less than a month of shooting.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos condemned the incident and said that those involved in it will be brought to justice soon. Governor Dagemo, who was shot dead, was a party member of President Ferdinand Marcos.
