International Desk: This time, North Korea launched a ballistic missile towards Japan. Citing South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), the New York Times reported in a report that North Korea had fired at least three missiles. These include one long-range and two short-range ballistic missiles.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that one of the missiles fired could be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
Meanwhile, according to a BBC report, North Korea launched a total of three missiles, including a long-range one, on Thursday morning. As a result, the Japanese government issued a rare emergency alert for residents of its northern region to stay indoors.
North Korea fired at least 23 missiles on Wednesday. One of these missiles fell 60 km off the coast of South Korea.
This is the first time a ballistic missile has landed near the South’s waters since the two Koreas split in 1945. It is also the record of North Korea’s most missile launch in one day. South Korea sounded a rare air alert and activated its air defense system.
South and North Korea are still virtually at war, as the 1950-53 Korean War ended without a peace treaty.
