Dhaka Bureau: Electricity prices have been increased at wholesale and retail levels. which will be effective February 1. Yesterday, January 30, the electricity department published the notification in the form of a gazette. It was aired today, Tuesday, January 31.
As per the new rates, the lowest electricity users at the customer level have increased by 20 paisa per unit. At the customer level, the price has been increased from 3 taka 94 paisa to 4 taka 14 paisa.
Earlier, BERC had increased electricity prices by 19.92 percent at the wholesale level last November. It was implemented in December. This was the 10th wholesale price hike in 14 years. After that, six power distribution companies applied to BERC to increase the retail prices starting in December. BERC heard these applications on January 8. Post-hearing comments were requested by January 15. After that, BERC is supposed to announce the new price. Before that, the price was increased by the government’s executive order.
