Expatriate income is 167 million dollars in 27 days

Dhaka Bureau: During the ongoing severe dollar crisis, there has been some positive change in the emigration income in the country. In the first 27 days of January this year, expatriates sent 167 million (1.67 billion) US dollars to the country. in local currency (107 taka per dollar), which amounts to about 18 thousand crore taka. This is known from the latest published information from Bangladesh Bank.

According to Bangladesh Bank data, expatriates sent the most remittances through private commercial banks compared to other banks. Remittances of 1.4 billion and 5.2 million dollars have come to the country through private commercial banks. On the other hand, 22.6 million dollars came through government banks, 3.89 million through specialized banks, and 5.8 million through foreign banks.

A review of the remittance flow showed that the remittance flow has been increasing since October last year, although it decreased at the beginning of the current financial year 2022–23. which continues until January. 169 million people spent 97 million dollars in December last year, 159 million spent 51 million dollars in November, and 152 million spent 55 million dollars in October.

Remittances totaled 209 crore (63 million US dollars) in July, 203 crore (69 million US dollars) in August, and 153 crore (95 million US dollars) in September of this fiscal year.
