Sports Desk: Almost every day, someone is being punished in the Bangladesh Premier League for breaking the code of conduct; someone is being reprimanded and warned. Sylhet Strikers’ left-handed opener Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who is in great form, entered that list.
Against Chittagong Challengers yesterday, Sylhet won with his fifty. After getting out, he lost his calm mood after playing well in the opening. After hitting spinner Nihaduzzaman for four sixes, Shanto was stumped while advancing. Then he went outside the field in front of the dugout and hit the helmet on the ground.
Shanta was accused of violating Section 2.2 of the BCB Code of Conduct. This section deals with disrespect or misuse of cricket equipment. For this, he was reprimanded, and a demerit point was added to his name. This is Shantar’s first D-merit point in BPL. And if there are three, he will be banned for one match.
Match referee Debbrata Pal gave this penalty based on the complaint of the match officials. There was no need for a formal hearing because Shanto accepted it. In this match, Shanto scored 60 runs off 44 balls and became the man of the match. His team won Sylhet by seven wickets.
