International Desk: Nav Kishore Das, the health minister of the eastern Indian state of Odisha, was shot dead by a police officer named “Gopal Das.”
He was shot dead near Gandhi Chowk in Brajrajnagar, in the state’s Jharsuguda district, on Sunday (January 29). The accused police officer is an assistant sub-inspector. News from NDTV
The health minister was going to attend a function. At that time, the police officer fired two rounds at him, and they hit him in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
Brajrajnagar sub-division police officer Gupteswar Bhoi told reporters, “Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police Gopal Das fired at the minister on Sunday.” The minister is admitted to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses claimed that Health Minister Nav Kishore Das was shot as he got out of his car. The motive of the attack is still unclear.
An eyewitness said Nav Das was the chief guest at a pre-arranged inauguration ceremony on Sunday. When he arrived at the venue, a crowd gathered to welcome him. And in the meantime, the sound of gunshots is heard. We saw a policeman run away after being shot at close range.
A video from the scene shows the bloodied Nav Kishore Das being lifted into a car. According to the media, the minister may be airlifted from the scene to Bhubaneswar.
