Sports Desk: Bangladesh got off to a good start by defeating Australia by 7 wickets in the opening match of the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup on Saturday (January 14). In response to Ajid’s 130 runs for 5 wickets, Tigresses reached the target after losing 3 wickets in 18 overs.

The match starts at 2 pm Bangladesh time in Benoni. Where Australia came down to bat first and was under pressure at the beginning. In the second over, Disha Biswas returned the opener Pele for just 5 runs. Then he was hit again in the fourth over of the match. Another Aussie opener Paris guided Boulder to the pavilion for 7 runs. After that, Ajira couldn’t set up a big target despite More’s 51-ball 52 and Ella’s 39-ball 35. In the end, Ajira collected 130 runs thanks to Smith’s 7-ball 16 and captain McKenna’s 6-ball 12. Marufa and Disha took two wickets each for Bangladesh. Rabeya took a wicket.

Tigresses lost the opener Rani Shaha on the first ball of the innings after coming down to bat with a target of 131 runs. After that, Afia Humaira scored 24 off 22 balls and Dilara Akhtar scored 40 runs off 42 balls for Tigresses. Although they returned to Sajghar, Bangladesh started the mission with a win thanks to Swarnar Akhter’s unbeaten 18-ball 23 and Sumaiya Akhter’s unbeaten 25-ball 31. Apart from Australia, Bangladesh’s opponents in Group A of the tournament are Sri Lanka and the United States. Bangladesh will play Sri Lanka on January 16 and USA on January 18. Bangladesh women’s team will play all their matches in Benoni in the group stage.
