Dhaka Bureau: Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen held a meeting with China’s new Foreign Minister Qin Gang.
The Chinese Foreign Minister left Dhaka for Africa at 2:50 pm on Tuesday (January 9) at the VIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Speaking to reporters at the airport after the meeting, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen highlighted the issues discussed between the two countries.
The Foreign Minister said that the Qin Gang had been informed about Bangladesh’s trade deficit with China and said that Bangladeshi products were supposed to be given duty-free access to the Chinese market. But even after a long time, Bangladeshi businessmen are not getting that benefit. The Foreign Minister of China has been requested to make an announcement in this regard. The issue of China’s cooperation in various developmental activities of Bangladesh including the Padma Bridge also came up in the discussion.
He said, we believe in one China. This is our principle. This is our foreign policy. We have to go with everyone. So we will give time to time support to China.
The foreign minister said that during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Bangladesh, several financial assistance agreements were signed. But all have not yet been implemented. Talked to the Foreign Minister of China about that.
He said that in the meeting, the Foreign Minister of China invited the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh to visit China. In response we also offered him to visit Bangladesh for a longer period.
In the meeting, the Foreign Minister of China was thanked for vaccinating Bangladesh against the coronavirus.
The plane carrying the Chinese Foreign Minister landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:58 pm on Tuesday. Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen welcomed the Chinese Foreign Minister with flowers at the airport. A meeting was then held between the two foreign ministers at the airport’s VIP lounge.
