International Desk: The situation is slowly prevailing in Brazil. Supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro rioted in Brazil’s Congress building, the presidential palace and the Supreme Court on Sunday (January 8). News from BBC, CNN

Videos circulating on social media show Bolsonaro’s supporters smashing windows and chairs at the Congress building and the Supreme Court. They climbed onto the roof of the Congress building.

Footage from the Globo TV channel showed protesters marching to the presidential palace as well. Many wore green and yellow clothes. It is the symbol of the Bolsonaro government.

The country’s security forces fired tear gas to disperse the protesters. According to local media reports, at least 3,000 people took part in this rampage. In such a situation, the current president of the country, Lula da Silva, has assigned the country’s federal forces to protect the security of the capital.

According to CNN, the police have already started removing the protesters from the government buildings. At least 400 protesters were arrested by the police.

Lula da Silva, who won a third term as president of Brazil after defeating Bolsonaro, blamed Bolsonaro as the instigator of the attack. Lula was sworn in on January 1 this year. He claimed that Bolsonaro had incited his supporters to demand fresh elections by making baseless allegations that the last election was rigged.

Meanwhile, Bolsonaro has not yet conceded defeat in the October 30 election. He left Brazil before Lula was sworn in. The former president of Brazil is currently staying in Florida, USA.
