International Desk: The police arrested the country’s popular actress Taraneh Alidusti for expressing solidarity with the ongoing anti-government movement in Iran. He has been accused of spreading ‘false information’ about the movement. This information was given in a report of Al-Jazeera based in Qatar.
According to reports, Alidusti is best known for his role in the Oscar-winning film ‘The Salesman’. In an Instagram post, he condemned the death sentence of Mohsen Shekhari for his involvement in the protests. A post on Iran’s state news agency Irna’s Telegram account said Alidusti was arrested by police after he failed to provide any documents consistent with his claims.
38-year-old Taraneh Alidusti is one of Iran’s most successful actresses. He won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film in 2016 for his performance in ‘The Salesman’.
Notably, 22-year-old Kurdish woman Mahsha Amini was arrested for violating Iran’s strict hijab law. He died in hospital on September 16 after his arrest.
Since his death, protests have spread across Iran demanding the country’s dress code and justice for the murder. Many women protestors have set fire to their hijabs in the ongoing protests, presenting a clear image of open defiance of authorities.
