International desk: Israeli forces killed Hassan Nasrullah, head of the Iran-backed armed group Hezbollah, in a coordinated attack on September 27 in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. After that, it was assumed that the possible new head of Hezbollah is Hashem Safyeddin. However, Hashem has not been found since Friday (October 4).

Al Jazeera, a Qatar-based media outlet, says that the Israeli forces carried out massive airstrikes targeting Hashem in the southern suburbs of Beirut last Thursday night. A Lebanese security source confirmed that Hashem has not been contacted since that day.

Al Jazeera says Hashem is a very high-ranking member of the organization as chairman of the armed group’s executive council. In addition, he is the cousin of the deceased Nasrullah.

Al Jazeera journalist Dorsa Jabbari from Beirut said Lebanese and Hezbollah officials were quick to allow rescue workers to retrieve bodies from the area after the attack. Jabbari said that Hashem Safyeddin was also killed—the success of the Hezbollah group came under question.

Meanwhile, Israeli security officials told the Sky News Network on Saturday that an airstrike in Dahiya killed Hezbollah’s executive council chief and Nasrallah’s cousin Hashem Safyeddin.

In addition, citing sources, Daily Sabah says that Hashem has not been contacted since the attack on Friday morning in the suburbs of Beirut. Another source close to Hezbollah told AFP that contact with Hashem has been lost and we do not know where he is.

“We are trying to reach the underground headquarters where the attack took place,” said the official, who did not wish to be named. But every now and then Israel attacks and rescue efforts fail.
