International Desk: Members of the Afghan delegation refused to stand and show respect during Iran’s national anthem at a conference in Tehran. The two countries are involved in a war of words. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran has summoned the supervisor of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran in that incident.
Afghan Taliban Hajj and Waqf Deputy Minister Azizor Rahman Mansour sit during the playing of Iran’s national anthem at the opening ceremony of the 38th International Islamic Unity Conference held in Tehran on Thursday. This creates a negative reaction.
According to Tasnim news agency, the Director General of the Second Department of South Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran reminded the Afghan supervisor about the unconventional and unacceptable actions of the Afghan representative at the conference. In addition, Tehran condemned the violation of diplomatic norms.
Tehran said guests must respect the hosts. Stand up for the country’s national anthem as an internationally recognized act.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Iran International reported that Taliban diplomat Azizor Rahman Mansour refused to apologize when the Iranian authorities called for an apology for not standing during the national anthem.
In addition, Mansoor defended himself on social media and said, “When the song is played in our homeland, we sit, and I have followed that custom.”
On the other hand, Iran’s special representative for Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qoumi, condemned the actions of Taliban official Mansoor. He termed the matter ‘disrespect to diplomatic principles’.
In X, he wrote, “There is no basis or legitimacy in disrespecting diplomatic principles on the pretext of a Sharia-based ban on music.”
Earlier, Afghan Consul General Hafiz Mohibullah Sakir did not stand and pay respects during Pakistan’s national anthem at an Eid-e-Miladunbir event. While everyone present at the ceremony stood, the Afghan Consul General and his aide sat. Later, the spokesperson of the Afghan consulate said that their consul general did not disrespect the national anthem of Pakistan. Basically, he didn’t stand up because it was playing.
The Taliban consider music completely taboo. According to the group, music is something that destroys people’s religion and life.
