International Desk: Jimmy Carter, the former president of the United States, is stepping into his centenary on October 1st. His physical condition has deteriorated considerably. But he is still interested in listening to all the news of the world, especially the political news. Although he has been under hospital care for the past 19 months, his family members said he was able to recognize his well-wishers.

Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, said at a meeting held at the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia, that his grandfather is still in the same position as he was when he went to the hospital. Jason said, “After going to the hospital, we thought maybe they could live a few more days or a few weeks or a few months.” But happily, he is still enjoying this world.

A concert was held in Atlanta last Tuesday to mark Carter’s 100th birthday. Renowned artists of the United States performed music on this occasion.

Jason said his grandfather didn’t just keep up with politics. He also hopes to vote in November’s presidential election. Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, said he would vote for Kamala Harris. Carter is still eating his favorite food. His favorite food is peanut butter ice cream. The Carter Center calls on the website and social media to wish Jimmy Carter a happy birthday.

Jimmy Carter was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia. He served as President from 20 January 1977 to 20 January 1981. He received the Nobel Peace Prize. His wife, Rosalyn Carter, died last year. — AP
