International Desk: At least 30 people have lost their lives as a result of a conflict over a controversial gold mine in the Oceania country of Papua New Guinea. This incident has spread deep anxiety and panic among the locals. On Monday (September 16), the British media reported the information to the BBC.

According to local sources, a conflict broke out between two tribal groups, Sakaar and Piande, over the ownership of a gold mine in the Porgera region. The reason for the conflict has emerged since the Saka clan members settled on Piand land in August last year.

Police said more than 300 shots were fired in a single day last Sunday amid clashes. This terrible incident happened after the failure of peace talks. Schools, hospitals, and government offices in the area were closed, and many buildings were reported to have been set on fire.

Papua New Guinea Police Commissioner David Manning expressed concern that the situation is caused by illegal miners and settlers, who have resorted to violence to terrorize local communities. He also added that strict action will be taken if arms are caught in public.

At present, a night curfew has been imposed in the area. Security forces have been given special powers to bring the situation under control. The sale of alcohol has been banned to reduce the intensity of clashes.

A Home Ministry spokesperson said, “This is a sad chapter for our country. We are praying that peace will be restored soon and the local people will be safe.

Note that this gold mine owned by Canada is the second largest gold mine in Papua New Guinea. Such violence is a new chapter of concern for the locals. Everyone hopes that the government will quickly control the situation and establish peace.
