International Desk: Heavy rains have created a severe flood situation in India’s Gujarat. At least 29 people have lost their lives in this flood so far. NDTV reported this information in a report on Thursday (August 29).
It is said that Gujarat has been affected by incessant rains for the past few days. According to the State Emergency Operations Center, the rainfall this year has been 105 percent more than the annual average. As a result, a terrible flood situation has developed.
The state government said that the floods caused by the incessant rains have submerged everything, including roads and houses, in many areas of the state. 140 reservoirs and dams and 24 rivers flow above the danger line.
State and national disaster response forces are carrying out rescue operations. So far, 18 thousand people have been evacuated to safe places. The Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard have also been called in to help in the rescue operation.
Adding further concern to this flood situation is the weather forecast. The India Meteorological Department said that rains may continue in Gujarat for the next two days. It is feared that if it rains again, the flood situation may become more dire.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel over the phone about the flood situation. He assured all help to deal with the flood situation.
