International Desk: The United States has reacted to the plan to build an air base in the Bay of Bengal and create a Christian country with parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar. The country says that this information about the United States is not correct. US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said these things in response to a journalist’s question at a regular press conference on Tuesday (June 4) local time.

In the briefing, a journalist asked, “The ruling Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, recently claimed that a white man offered her that she could remain in power without any pressure if she allowed a foreign country to set up an air base in the Bay of Bengal.”

He also mentioned that there is a conspiracy to make a Christian country like East Timor by building a base in the Bay of Bengal and taking part of Bangladesh and Myanmar. Is Sheikh Hasina throwing these accusations at the United States? Because the United States has been calling for a free and fair election in Bangladesh, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption, In response, Miller said, ‘I’m not exactly sure who those comments are aimed at. But if these words are indeed said in reference to the United States, then I can only say that they are not correct.’

In another question, the journalist wants to know that Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus was entered inside the courtroom in the dark and iron cage-like enclosure set for the defendants on Sunday (June 2). Responding to this, Dr. Yunus said he is at the worst stage of his cursed life. Likewise, millions of Bangladeshis are at the worst of their cursed lives due to the absence of democracy, rule of law, and rampant corruption. We have seen that the US has imposed some sanctions and visa restrictions on former army chiefs and police chiefs of Bangladesh. Do you think these steps are enough to hold the government accountable after the elections held on January 7, or will you consider taking more steps to show solidarity with the democratic-democracy-loving people of Bangladesh as promised in the past?

In response, Matthew Miller said, We, Dr. I am closely monitoring the progress of the case against Yunus. Dr. We have expressed our concern that labor laws may be misused to harass and threaten Yunus. We are further concerned that such misuse of labor and anti-corruption laws may call into question the rule of law and hinder foreign direct investment. This spokesperson for the US Department of State said that as the trial process continues, we will ask the Bangladesh government. I will continue to encourage a fair and transparent legal process regarding Yunus, but I do not have any information to prejudge the imposition of sanctions or restrictions.
