Dhaka Bureau: A high-level US trade delegation paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The meeting was held on Monday (May 27). Earlier, the delegation arrived in Dhaka on Sunday night on a four-day visit.
The delegation is led by Atul Keshap, president of the Bangladesh-US Business Council, which advocates for bilateral investment and trade expansion. He is accompanied by high-level executives of the council.
During the meeting with the Prime Minister, Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F. Rahman and State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu were present.
The Bangladesh-United States Business Council was formed in 2021. Since then, the council has been working to highlight the business opportunities in this country for US entrepreneurs.
Atul Keshap, the current president of the US-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC) under the US Chamber of Commerce, arrived in Dhaka in September after assuming office in April 2023. But before that, he visited Bangladesh many times while holding various duties.
The US trade delegation visiting Dhaka will discuss energy, power, equity, aviation, agriculture, food processing, Medicare, and other key sectors. Moreover, the possibility of trade, investment, and technology transfer, leveraging the benefits of the Bay of Bengal’s blue economy, is also expected to be discussed.
