Sports Desk: The T20 World Cup curtain will rise on June 2. Right now, everyone is busy with the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), a franchise-based Twenty20 tournament. Their performance under the leadership of the new captain was excellent. They had to taste defeat in 10 out of 14 matches. After such a performance, the franchise got big bad news. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, the captain of the team, has to be punished for the slow- turnover rate.
Pandya is a member of India’s T20 World Cup team. Popular cricket website Cricinfo confirmed his punishment on Saturday (May 18). Hardik is the second captain, after Rishabh Pant, to face this penalty.
As per the rules of the IPL, if a team fails to complete 20 overs three times within the stipulated time, the captain of that team is punished. Earlier, Hardik was fined for a slow overrate in two matches. 30 percent of Hardik’s match fee was deducted for committing the same mistake the third time. Also banned for one match.
As there is no match in Mumbai in the current season of the IPL, this punishment will be effective in the first match of the next season. Which will not affect the World Cup.
Hardik’s team failed to finish the over in the allotted time in the losing match against the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday (May 17). Due to which Mumbai had to be punished.
Incidentally, Pandya has averaged only 216 runs in 14 matches in the current season. On the other hand, he took 11 wickets with the ball at an economy rate of 10.75.
