International Desk: US President Joe Biden called Friday’s attack on US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband “despicable”. An intruder attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer after breaking into the couple’s California home in search of the speaker early Friday, according to state officials. It fractured his skull.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Philadelphia, Biden said political violence has “no place” in the United States and that “enough is not enough.”
Referring to media reports, Biden said the assailant was chanting “Where’s Nancy?” The same slogan was used during the deadly attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Biden said, ‘I’m not making this up’; “This has been reported” in the media.
Pelosi’s spokesman Drew Hamill said on Friday, “The assailant attacked Paul Pelosi by forcefully crouching down and threatening to take his life, demanding to meet with the speaker.”
According to reports, Paul Pelosi (82) underwent surgery and is recovering in hospital. He was alone at home, as his wife was working in Washington.
There are less than two weeks to go before crucial US midterm elections. Members of both parties expressed concern about the potential for political violence.
