International Desk: The United Nations Security Council did not pass the Gaza ceasefire resolution brought by the United States. Russia and China vetoed the proposal on Friday.
The proposal brought by the US calls for a’sustainable ceasefire’ lasting about six weeks. It is said to protect civilians and allow humanitarian aid to be delivered. 11 votes were cast in favor of the proposal. Russia, China, and Algeria voted against it, and Guyana abstained.
Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, said the proposal was highly politicized and contained an effective green signal for Israel’s military operation in Rafah.
He said the US draft proposal “contains an effective green signal for Israel to launch a military operation in Rafah.”
Vasily Nebenzia said Russia had already said it was no longer “calling for a cease-fire, and Russia will no longer tolerate meaningless offers that get us nowhere.”
