International Desk: Delhi Chief Minister Arvinder Kejriwal has been arrested. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the investigating agency of the Union Finance Ministry, on Thursday (March 21) night.
Just a few weeks ahead of India’s Lok Sabha elections, New Delhi’s politics witnessed such a startling event.
Allegedly, he evaded ED summons nine times. After Kejriwal’s arrest, Aam Aadmi Party workers and supporters staged a protest in front of his residence. They started protesting across the capital of India.
Section 144 was issued in front of the Chief Minister’s residence to bring the situation under control. Kejriwal is the first sitting Chief Minister in the history of independent India to be arrested.
His party, the Aam Aadmi Party, says he will retain his post even if he is arrested. Besides, Kejriwal will perform all the duties of the Chief Minister from jail.
