Government spokesman Amadou Abd Ramane said in a statement that, considering the aspirations and interests of the people of the country, the government of Niger has responsibly decided to sever military ties with America, and it will be implemented quickly.
Abrogation of the agreement would render the US military presence on Niger territory illegal.
A high-level military delegation led by the US Assistant Under Secretary for African Affairs visited Niger this week. The Niger government then announced the cancellation of the military agreement between the two countries.
The spokesman of the Niger government also said in his statement that the decision to cancel the agreement was made because of the plan to violate the sovereignty of the American delegation, and the agreement between the two countries did not get any results in the fight against terrorism.
