International Desk: Indian Home Minister Amit Shah announced border fencing after a large number of soldiers fled from Myanmar and took shelter in India. However, Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio called for a more thorough discussion on the issue before the central government takes this decision. News of PTI.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio made the remarks on Wednesday (January 26) after the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isaac Muivah (NSCN-IM), one of the most important political and separatist organizations in the northeastern Indian state of Nagaland, opposed the fencing of the India-Myanmar border.
He said that before fencing the border, the Center should find a solution, keeping all parties in mind.
When reporters asked about the state’s position on the issue, Rio said the government should consult with the people. If necessary, we have to formulate a formula on how to solve the problem for the people and prevent encroachment. Because Nagaland is on the border with Myanmar and there are Nagas on both sides,.
Rio, a BJP ally, said many people live in one part of India, but their land is on the other side.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said last week that the government will stop free movement of people along the Indo-Myanmar border and completely fence the border to make it as secure as the Bangladesh border.
Deputy CM Y Paton said on Monday that the Nagaland government would hold meetings with other northeastern states that share a border with Myanmar. Then the matter will go to the center.
Various Naga civil society organizations and the NSCN-IM opposed the center’s decision, saying the move would alienate Nagas living on both sides of the border.
