Dhaka Bureau: To increase export trade, like every year, the month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair is starting in the capital. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the fair as the chief guest at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal New Town at 10:30 a.m. On this occasion, State Minister of Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said in a press conference held at the fair grounds on Saturday that our main goal is to increase export trade by diversifying exports. Diversification of exports of domestic products by reducing dependence on the garment sector. He said we are now focusing on the jute and leather industries. Buses have been arranged from Farmgate to connect with Metrorail and the Elevated Expressway to facilitate transportation to the fair. So that those who will come to the fair from Uttara can come directly to the fair from Farmgate by bus via the elevated expressway by metro rail.
Yesterday, the fair grounds were seen on the open ground on the west bank of the Shitalakshya River. The fair grounds are decorated in colorful colors on the north side of the Kanchan bridge in Rupganj. The last-minute preparations for the construction of artist stalls and pavilions are now underway. Sanitation workers are washing and cleaning the exhibition center. Some of the stalls are arranging the products. The entrance fee for the fair has also increased this year compared to last year. This year, general visitors have been charged Tk 50 instead of Tk 40, and for children below 12 years old, Tk 25 instead of Tk 20. The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. On holidays, the fair will continue until 10 p.m. Salim, in charge of the Olympic Pavilion, said that the pavilion of the Olympic Biscuit Company is being constructed at a cost of Tk 80 lakh. They hope that this year’s fair will sell well. Raju Ahmed, the owner of Haji Biryani and Kebab House, said that due to the poor condition of the Kuril-Kanchan-Mela premises road, the arrival of buyers and visitors was relatively less last year. He thinks that the arrival of buyers and visitors will increase as the road construction work is completed this year.
