Sports Desk: French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has complained that the French star footballer Karim Benzema (36) has a relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood. Benzema filed a defamation case against him for making such allegations.
Benzema’s lawyer said that Gerald’s comments undermined Benzema’s honor and reputation. BBC news.
After Israel started attacking Gaza, Benzema said in a post on Twitter, “Once again, the unjust bombardment has started, and women and children are not spared from this attack.” Darmanin made such comments about Benzema after this post.
Darmanin said Benzema showed no sympathy for the estimated 1,300 Israelis killed in the October 7 attack by Hamas. The former French striker is well known for his ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.
He also said, “We are fighting with the Muslim Brotherhood because it is a jihadist organization.” He said this in an interview with CNews.
Karim Benzema is now playing in the Saudi Arabian League. He denied these allegations and threatened to take legal action against such defamation of the minister.
“He has never had the slightest connection to the Muslim Brotherhood organization, nor has he had any contact with anyone who claims to be a member,” Benzema said in the 92-page indictment published in French media on Tuesday.
Darmani had previously accused Karim Benzema of refusing to sing the national anthem and spreading religious intolerance through social media.
Note that the Muslim Brotherhood was established in Egypt about 80 years ago. This is typical of many modern Islamic organizations, including Hamas. Although it is an ideological movement, it has no formal structure. The Muslim Brotherhood is banned in several other countries, including Egypt, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
