According to a BBC report on Wednesday (November 16), the London-based human rights organization Amnesty International said that based on the charges brought against those sentenced to death, human rights activists believe that these five people are Mohammad Gobadlou, Mehman Navas, Sidrat Madani, Mohammad Boroghani and Sahand Noor. According to local media reports, the court said that one of the four people who were sentenced to death had killed a policeman by hitting him with his car. The second man had a knife and a gun. A third person started terrorizing by blocking the road. A fourth man carried out the knife attack.
Earlier, these people had protested against the government against the death of a young woman named Masa Amini in police custody. Anti-government protests have been going on in Iran for the past three months.
According to an AFP report, Mahmoud Amiri, director of the Norway-based Iran Human Rights Organization, said, “The protesters were not given a lawyer during the interrogation.” They were forced to give false confessions through physical and mental torture and on the basis of those confessions they were sentenced.
In addition, an organization called Human Rights Activist News Agency (HRANA), operated from outside Iran, said that at least 348 protesters were killed by the security forces in the ongoing anti-government protests in the country. Another 15,900 Iranian citizens were arrested.
