International Desk: Our country may be small, but ‘no one has a license to bully us’ – Maldives President Mohammad Muijju said to India. He made this comment after returning home after a five-day high-level state visit to China on Saturday. At that time, he criticized India without mentioning names.
According to the report, three Maldivian ministers made controversial posts on social media about the photos of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep. A growing diplomatic dispute started between the two countries around that. Many Indians are canceling trips to the Maldives. In these incidents, Muijju made such a comment.
After coming to power in November 2023, the President of the Maldives came into discussion with various anti-India statements. Last week, Muizhu went to China on a state visit.
After returning home after this trip, the President of the Maldives said that we have several small islands in this ocean. We have a huge Exclusive Economic Zone of 9 lakh square kilometers. The Maldives is one of the countries in the largest part of this ocean.
Referring to India, he said that this ocean does not belong to a particular country. This (Indian) ocean also includes all the countries located here.
“We are not in anyone’s backyard,” said Muijju. We are an independent and sovereign nation.
During his five-day visit to China, Muijju held a meeting with the country’s President Xi Jinping. Later, they also signed at least 20 bilateral agreements between the two countries.
Meanwhile, after a meeting with top Chinese leaders, a joint statement said both sides agreed to continue to firmly support each other in protecting their respective core interests.
Incidentally, after the ‘controversial’ comments made by the Maldivian ministers about the Prime Minister of India, there has been a huge strain in the diplomatic relations between the two countries. In the meantime, Muijju urged Beijing to take steps to send more investment and Chinese tourists to the Maldives on a visit to China. And due to insulting comments about Modi, the government of the country has dismissed three ministers of the Maldives.
