International Desk: Russia has said that the US veto of the UN Security Council resolution requesting an emergency humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza last week is causing bloodshed in Palestinian Gaza.
According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia on Monday, more than 18 thousand people have lost their lives so far in the attack of Israel in Gaza. Last Friday, the United States vetoed a resolution in the General Assembly requesting an emergency humanitarian ceasefire.
The statement also said, “The veto is an acknowledgment of the continued bloodshed in Gaza.” This will make the humanitarian disaster more permanent. The destruction will continue.’
More than 90 countries, including the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, voted in favor of the draft resolution at an emergency session of the Security Council.
Thirteen member states of the council voted yes, while the UK abstained. Only the United States vetoed the ceasefire proposal.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that only five members of the Security Council can exercise veto power. Now is the time to reform the Security Council.
