Dhaka Bureau: State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that oil mines have been found in the country.

He said that the first level of oil was found in Sylhet’s Jayantpur and Mainatghat. 70 barrels of crude oil were found on the first day.

The state minister told reporters this information at the secretariat on Sunday (December 10).

He said, after 4 to 5 months, the entire oil reserves will be known. Stocks here are expected to last.

Nasrul Hamid said that excavation was completed at a depth of 2576 meters in Sylhet-10 well. 4 layers of gas are found in this well. The bottom layer tested at 2540-2550 meters yielded 25 million cubic feet of gas flow and a flowing pressure of 3250 psi. Reserves range from 43-100 billion cubic feet. Another good gas layer is found at 2460-2475 meters, where testing is expected to yield 25-30 million cubic feet of gas. Gas presence is found at 2290-2310 m. Another zone is found at a depth of 1397-1445 meters where oil was tested on 8-12-23 with an initial API gravity of 29.7 degrees. 35 barrels of oil flow per hour is available at self pressure. After the test is completed, the oil reserves will be known. Simultaneous production at depths of 2540 and 2460 meters will sustain for about 8-10 years and is worth about Tk 8500 crore as weighted average cost. If produced at the rate of 20 million cubic feet, it will sustain for more than 15 years.
