International Desk: After the aircraft carrier, this time in the Middle East, to be more precise, the United States has sent nuclear-armed submarines to the Mediterranean Sea. The submarine is nuclear-powered. The United States Navy’s Central Command (CENTCOM) announced this in a rare announcement on Sunday (November 6). This information is known from the report of the Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post. In a post shared on social media X (formerly Twitter), CENTCOM said, “On November 5, an Ohio-class submarine arrived in the United States Central Command’s area.” In addition to the Middle East, CENTCOM’s area of coverage is Central and South Asia.
Along with the post, Centcom also published a photo of the Ohio-class submarine. Based on the photo, the Jerusalem Post reported that the Ohio-class submarine was crossing Egypt’s Suez Canal and heading towards the Mediterranean Sea. However, CENTCOM did not reveal the name of the submarine. It is not known whether this submarine is one of the four submarines carrying the Tomahawk intercontinental cruise missile or one of the 14 submarines carrying the Trident-2 ballistic missile. This submarine series is the largest addition to the US submarine fleet.
Earlier, in mid-October, within a week of the start of the Hamas-Israel conflict, two air force warships were sent to the Mediterranean. The first US aircraft carrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, was sent to the area. Later on October 14, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin also ordered the deployment of the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower to the Eastern Mediterranean. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower has nine squadrons (minimum 72 and maximum 216) of fighters. Apart from this, two guided missile destroyers and a guided missile cruiser have also been sent.
It should be noted that in response to the violation of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest religious site of Muslims, and the torture of illegal settlers, the armed group Hamas launched an operation called “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood” on October 7 in the besieged Gaza territory of Palestine. At least 1,500 Israelis were killed in this attack by Hamas. More than 4,400 Israelis were injured. In addition, 239 people, including army officers and soldiers, were captured and taken to Gaza by Hamas. After that, Israel started a massive attack on the Gaza Strip on October 7. More than 9,500 Palestinians have been killed so far in this indiscriminate attack. More than half of the victims were women and children.
