More than 420 children are killed or injured every day in Gaza by Israel’s indiscriminate attacks, UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell said.
He told the UN Security Council that in addition to Gaza, at least 37 children were killed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. More than 30 Israeli children are reported to have been killed in the conflict. And at least 20 children are being held captive in the Gaza Strip; their fate is still unknown.
Russell warned that the situation is getting worse. And if the hostilities don’t end, I fear for the fate of the region’s children.
He later urged the Security Council to pass a resolution “immediately”. In addition to calling for a cease-fire, there was a demand to allow safe and unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza and the immediate safe release of all detained children, said Catherine Russell.
Meanwhile, at least 14 more Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in the central Gaza Strip. The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that 14 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a residential complex in Al-Nusirat refugee camp on Monday night.
After the attack, the victims were taken to Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah, where they were pronounced dead. The dead Palestinians fled from the northern part of the Gaza Strip and took refuge in a building in this camp.
On the other hand, a medical source told Al Jazeera that children were among the dead in the Israeli attack on Monday night. The source said that among the 14 people killed in the Israeli attack were several children.
