Meanwhile, the diplomats were asked to withdraw from India. Reuters news.
Relations between India and Canada have become seriously heated after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau brought forward allegations that agents of the Indian government were involved in the killing of Sikh separatist leader and Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijja in Canada last June.
Although the deceased Nijjar is a ‘terrorist’ in the eyes of New Delhi, India dismissed the allegations of involvement in his murder as ‘absurd’.
In this situation, India has asked to evacuate 41 Canadian diplomats. Canada has 62 diplomats in India, and India says Canadian diplomats should be reduced by 41 from the total.
However, the Indian and Canadian foreign ministries did not immediately respond to this.
Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar had earlier said there was an “atmosphere of violence” and an “atmosphere of intimidation” for Indian diplomats in Canada.
