Economy Desk: After payment of 1.31 billion dollars to the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) for July-August to meet import liabilities, the amount of foreign currency reserves of Bangladesh Bank has reached 21.47 billion dollars according to IMF accepted BPM6. 11 days ago, on August 30, it was 23.06 billion dollars. On the other hand, at the end of the day on Sunday, Bangladesh Bank’s ‘own account’ gross reserve stood at 27.61 billion dollars, which was 29.20 billion dollars 10 days ago. Bangladesh Bank Spokesperson and Executive Director Mehbaul Haque told the media about the payment of 1.31 billion dollars in the last month of July–August.

He said that the gross reserve has become 27.61 billion dollars after paying the outstanding debt. According to the data published by Bangladesh Bank, on August 30, Bangladesh Bank’s ‘own account’ gross reserve was 29.20 billion dollars. On Sunday, it stood at 27.61 billion dollars. According to this, the gross reserve of Bangladesh decreased by 1.59 billion dollars in the last 11 days.

According to BPM6 in the same data on August 30, after removing 1.59 billion dollars from the reserves, the reserve status, according to BPM6 on Sunday, stood at 21.47 billion dollars. The foreign exchange reserves fell to 29.97 billion dollars after seven years after the previous debt repayment in July. There is a deficit in Bangladesh’s balance of payments while paying the import liabilities. To deal with that deficit, Bangladesh entered into a 4.7 billion-dollar loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) last January. At that time, the agency predicted in a statement that Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves would fall to $30 billion by the end of the fiscal year 2022–23.
