International Desk: If the age of the bride is 25 years or younger, the newlywed couple will get a cash prize. The authorities of Changshan County in eastern China have recently made such an announcement. They have taken such steps to encourage the young generation to get married. A notice in this regard was published on Changshan County’s official We Chat account last week.
It is said that if the bride is 25 years old or younger, a cash prize of 1,000 yuan (about 15,000 taka) will be given to the couple. The award aims to encourage early marriage and childbearing. It also mentions various types of subsidies for couples adopting children, including child care and education. China’s population is shrinking for the first time in six decades. In addition, the number of elderly people is increasing rapidly.
Concerned about this, the Chinese authorities have undertaken various initiatives, including financial incentives and child care facilities, on an urgent basis to increase the birth rate. The legal age of marriage in China is 22 for men and 20 for women. But in recent times, the marriage rate in the country has been decreasing drastically. As a result, the birth rate has also decreased.
The number of marriages in China fell to a record low of 6.8 million in 2022. This is the lowest number of marriages in the country since 1986. In 2021, there will be 8 lakh more marriages than this.
