Dhaka Bureau: The government has launched the universal pension program (scheme) to bring the citizens of the country under the pension system. The registration process has been opened on Thursday, the day of the inauguration of this much-discussed pension program for everyone except government employees. 1,700 people joined the public pension scheme on the day of its launch. Many others have also registered. In this context, the National Pension Authority is the implementing organization of the universal pension scheme.
Golam Mostafa said that the citizens of the country are optimistic about the pension scheme. The account for the second day was not taken out. But on the first day, more than 1,700 people registered by submitting subscriptions. He said that many more people have filled out the form for registration, but the money is not being counted before depositing. A total of Tk 87 lakh has been paid for the subscription on the first day.
According to the sources of the National Pension Authority of the Ministry of Finance, there is an opportunity to join this program through the website 24 hours a day and night. Currently, four types of schemes have been introduced under the universal pension. Among these, there is a Pravas scheme for expatriates, a Pragati scheme for private sector workers, a protection scheme for citizens engaged in the informal sector, i.e., the self-employed, and an equality scheme for low-income people.
Universal Pension Scheme Rules have already been issued to implement these programs. A public pension authority has been constituted. Besides, a website called ‘Upension’ (www.upension.gov.bd) has been inaugurated. Anyone can join the pension program through this website. Basic information about pension schemes is given there. A unique ID number will be given in favor of the applicant on application by filling out the prescribed form online.
